A project located in the heart of Doncaster Town Centre. The brief was to remove existing 1960's buildings on the frontage and an old disused cinema to the rear, to create 18 000 sq ft of floor space for retail use.
A challenging project was handled and co-ordinated professionally by BLD as an integral part of the design team to overcome various obstacles throughout the construction process.
Due to the historical location of the site Archaeologists were required on site. Interesting items were discovered ranging from roman pots, roman jewellery, roman coins, stone wells and even 2 skeletons buried together!!!
The new build consisted of a steel frame flat roof building to create the retail space. However, we had to work closely with the Local Authority Conservation Officers to create a Georgian frontage which faced onto High Street.
A well detailed and conscientious approach resulted in a successful project both in terms of achieving the clients brief and a pleasing frontage which now enhances the street scene.
Highly commended by the Local Authority for its sympathetic approach. |
